Transfer larger files without a cloud upload

Work within the 1 GB per-file limit and avoid the most common interruptions during local transfers.

Updated 3 min read

Check the recipient and conversation before sharing. A local network is not proof that every connected device is trusted.

Before you begin

Share accepts files up to 1 GB each. The implementation sends bounded chunks with flow control rather than uploading one large object to a server. Local link quality, browser memory, receiver storage and the number of recipients all affect the experience. Test a smaller representative file before sending a large video to several devices at once.

A practical workflow

Keep both devices awake and connected to power when appropriate. Do not switch Wi-Fi, close the page or assume that a screen-off phone will continue transferring. If the connection drops during a file, send it again; automatic peer reconnection is not a promise of byte-level file resume. For a file above the current limit, choose an approved alternative rather than expecting a hidden paid bypass.

Fast file sharing

Send images, videos, PDFs and any other file up to 1 GB at local network speed, with live progress for every recipient.

Questions that matter

How large can files be, and how fast is the transfer?

Each file can be up to 1 GB. Files are split into chunks and streamed directly between devices with flow control, so speed is limited mainly by your Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Every recipient shows its own progress. If a connection drops mid-transfer, simply send the file again.

Which browsers and devices are supported?

Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS and iPadOS. The browser needs WebRTC, WebCrypto and IndexedDB, and the page must be opened over HTTPS.

How can I send files from my phone to my computer without a cable?

Connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi or reachable wired LAN and open share.okya.app in each browser. After local-network verification, choose a device or room and send your files, up to 1 GB per file. Keep both browsers open. No app or account is needed, and file contents do not go through cloud storage. Guest-network isolation or a VPN can prevent a direct connection.

Open the page. That is the whole setup.

OKYA Share uses only standard browser technology, so there is nothing to install or configure.

  • Join the same network: Connect your devices to the same Wi-Fi or wired LAN, then open share.okya.app in a modern browser.
  • Devices verify each other: A lightweight signaling service introduces candidates. Automatic mode verifies a local host-candidate path; devices attested by a configured LAN node use a separate verification path.
  • Share freely: Once verified, files, messages and screens flow directly between devices. Close the tab to stop sharing.

Connection and privacy

Messages and files are sent over WebRTC DataChannels, which are always encrypted (DTLS). TURN relays are disabled by design, so content can never be forwarded through a server.

If automatic local-path verification fails, Share shows a clear message instead of guessing. An optional administrator-run LAN node can attest devices separately; those attested connections may use configured STUN, but never a TURN relay. Network restrictions can still prevent a connection.
